A privately held Brazilian family investment office built on more than 25 years of mining experience.

Who We Are

Founded by Aluizio Dutra and built through private entrepreneurial capital, Lion Group invests in operating mining companies and development-stage mineral assets across Brazil through an active ownership model.

The Group combines more than 25 years of mining experience with a long-term, hands-on ownership approach. Lion Group is not structured as a single diversified mining operator: its portfolio companies maintain their own governance, management, technical teams, licences and mineral rights, while the Group remains actively involved as shareholder in their strategy, development and execution.

Lion Group’s role goes beyond providing capital. As an active shareholder, the Group contributes strategic direction, business development, commercial and logistics expertise, senior management support, financing and capital-markets relationships, while working alongside the operating teams of its portfolio companies.

Founder & Chairman — Aluizio Dutra

Aluizio Dutra founded Lion Group and serves as its Chairman. A self-made entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in Brazil’s mineral industry, he built the Group through private capital and a consistent investment philosophy: identify underdeveloped mineral opportunities, invest with a long-term horizon and build the right management and technical teams around each business.

As the portfolio expanded, Lion Group increasingly brought experienced executives from the mining industry into its investee companies, allowing each business to develop its own professional management and governance structure.

In 2024, the State of Piauí appointed him Officer of the State Order of Merit Renascença do Piauí, recognising his contribution to employment, wealth creation and social development in the state.

A New Mining Frontier in Piauí

Northern Piauí had no established iron ore mining industry when Aluizio Dutra began investing in the region. Through Lion Mining, the investment developed into three operating mines and an export business serving international markets.

As the operation scaled, Lion also actively supported the development of the state’s new maritime export infrastructure, working alongside the Government of Piauí and Porto Piauí to help establish a new logistics solution for the region. Lion Mining became an anchor participant in the emerging export corridor, connecting mineral production in the interior of Piauí with international markets through the state’s new port infrastructure.

How We Invest

Lion Group combines long-term investment with active ownership.

Investments may include operating businesses, development-stage projects, partnerships and selected early-stage mineral opportunities. Portfolio companies retain their own management, governance, licences, mineral rights and day-to-day operating responsibilities, while Lion Group remains closely involved in major strategic, commercial, development and capital-allocation decisions.

Lion Group supports its investments through private capital and direct shareholder involvement, contributing to strategy, corporate development, commercial positioning, logistics, senior management, financing and access to international investors, industrial partners and markets.
